History and Background

LIT is a small company primarily focused on supplying software to the Sheriff’s profession. This also includes the supply of hardware and the implementing of the software and training on the software. LIT also acts as the IT managers in the bigger Sheriff offices and as such is intimately involved in streamlining the processes in a Sheriff’s office to maximise the return on capital spent on training, hardware and software.

LIT was established in 1998 by the two directors when the need was identified for a professional Sheriff Software package that can be implemented on a variety of platforms using diverse hardware.

Each director brought to LIT their individual skills comprising, inter alia software development skills, training skills, expert knowledge of the Sheriff’s profession and the vision to expand the software range.

Although the name was chosen to indicate the focused view of the company towards the Sheriff’s profession, the company have widened their view to develop and implement custom software to a variety of companies.

Company Organisation

Lit is primarily a vendor of its own software, although we are also a substantial vendor of IT hardware, IT industry standard software and Services.

As such, the company is loosely organised into three units:

IT Services which includes hardware, software and networking

Support Services which includes training

Development Services which includes custom software development

Company clients may fall into all three units and through our skills we provide them with the best solutions.

The company operates from our offices in Randburg, but due to the nature of our support and service to our customers the staff is mainly on-site.

Markets Served

Primarily the paralegal profession is served, although with the addition of the Visual Assurance software to our range of custom software we are expanding to include the manufacturing, marketing, financial and governmental sectors.

LIT is primarily focused on providing solutions to Gauteng based companies, but is in a position to provide our services, software and expertise subcontinent wide.

LIT is an accredited reseller for the major IT distributors in South Africa, including Mustek, Dlink, Compu Cable Repairs, Square One etc.

Directors and Shareholding

The company, Legal Information Technology (Pty) Ltd is registered in South Africa with registration number 1998/22650/07 and is privately held by its Directors.

The Directors are:

Eugene Schilz (B.Med.Sci) Managing Director

Eugene has extensive experience in the Sheriff’s field, Training, Microsoft products and the design of client interfaces and help file systems.

Leslie Steyn de Kock Director – Technical

Leslie has extensive experience in the software development field. He is also an expert programmer in the Unix and Delphi environments and is an accredited trainer for Visual Assurance.
